This year CultureCon hosted one of the best conferences for black creatives. People came out in numbers to hear panel talks from Issa Rae, Teyana Taylor, and of course Marsai Martin. Recently, Marsai Martin was named as Clinique’s newest beauty brand ambassador and supported the activation there.

CultureCon Island x Clinique Must-Have: Cleansing Balm

Marsai talked about her career as an actress on Blackish and her experience now being a beauty ambassador for Clinique. She spoke about how she watched her castmates like Tracey Ellis Ross get her makeup done for the hit TV sitcom series. These moments later inspired her to step into beauty and experiment with different looks and products. The moderator then asked her a question we’ve all been wanting the answer to. If you were stranded on CultureCon island for 6 months what is the one Clinique product you’re bringing with you and why?

Take The Day Off Balm

This lightweight makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeup, and sunscreens. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly and rinses off completely.

Price: $51

Marsai thought about it and said, ” The Take The Day Off Balm because it cleans the face of dirt and impurities from the sand and outside elements on the island”. The balm is a lightweight creamy texture that glides onto the face smoothly. This fragrance-free formula dissolves away the toughest makeup like waterproof mascara. Take The Day Off balm is good for dry, oily, and combination skin and a little bit goes a long way. This Clinique balm comes in a 6.7 oz value size, a 3.8 oz regular size, and a 1 oz mini size.

Clinique Hi-Fi Mascara

Marsai Martin also teased on her Instagram about the latest product Clinique was bringing and that’s the new Hi-Fi Mascara. This high-impact mascara is infused with nourishing ingredients like coconut oil and moringa oil. This helps to avoid flaking and makes it comfortable to apply to your lashes from root to tip.

This comes in a deep black shade and once applied with a few coats gives a very lifted and volumized look. The brush tip makes it easy to apply to the inner and outer corners of your lashes. The applicator is a nice size and helps to prevent clumping by pulling just the right amount of product out on the brush. The mascara formula is fragrance-free and smudge-proof.

The Clinique mascara has a lightweight gel texture to it and can volumize hooded eyes or almond eyes with one coat. Plus, the packaging looks and feels premium with the iridescent lime green tube having the Clinique name etched in white on the front.

When it comes to application, give it a minute or two to dry and before you know it you’ll have a set of curled luminous lashes.

Clinique Hi-Fi Mascara

Clinique’s most volumizing mascara for your loudest lash look. High Impact High-Fi Full Volume Mascara amps up lashes for 230% more volume, instantly.

Price: $27

Marsai’s Go-To: Clinique Moisture Surge

Now when it comes to MoistureSurge this is a Clinique classic and one of Marsai’s go-to products. She enjoys how the formula is “super lightweight and super hydrating with SPF in it”. When it comes to dryness Moisture Surge will quench your skin’s thirst. This formula includes nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and aloe that penetrate deep into the skin barrier. A small amount of this cream moisturizer can be applied to the face to provide just the right amount of hydration to the skin.

Clinique Moisture Surge

Fight back against life’s daily dehydrations. Discover the deepest hydration with Clinique’s Moisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator Moisturizer, a fan-favorite moisturizer designed in a lightweight, oil-free formula that penetrates deep into the skin’s surface for 100 hours of stabilizing hydration.

Price: $84

During the summer months, Clinique Moisture Surge is good to reach for, especially on those hot days in New York City. The water-based consistency makes it easy to apply to the face and it has a nice light scent that makes you feel refreshed. The packaging is small, lightweight, and great to take on the go. You can pack Moisture Surge in your luggage or keep it handy in your purse when you need an extra boost of hydration.

The Clinique Activation for VIPs and regular admission was truly a top-tier experience. Marsai Martin came through the VIP activation dropping some gems on her favorite Clinique products. I had the opportunity to try some of Clinique’s most viral products like the Cheek Pop blush and the Black Honey lip balm.

My MUA Jennifer, tried a cute glam look on me adding shimmery eyeshadow and berry-red lipgloss. Plus, I was gifted a goodie bag full of full-sized products including 2 of Marsai’s favorites, Take The Day Off Balm and Moisture Surge.

Then Marsai Martin made her way over to the second Clinique activation which was a photobooth station comprised of life-sized props of Clinique classic products. She posted some of her photos on Instagram from the activation and they came out looking amazing!

The activations were super thoughtful and really amplified the Clinique voice in more diverse spaces. Overall, the experience at CultureCon was worthwhile and the gems Marsai Martin gave us on her career and her top Clinique products were priceless.
