Every 30 seconds an OSEA Undaria Body Oil is being sold. Clean beauty brand OSEA, launched the oil in 2010, and it’s their number-one bestseller. Over the last 14 years, the Undaria Body Oil has grown in popularity becoming a go-to product for celebrities and body care enthusiasts like myself. Marvel Actress, Brie Larson used the seaweed-enriched oil in her Vogue Beauty Secrets video (6:51 timestamp). Plus, in a Harper’s Bazaar interview, former Spice Girl singer Victoria Beckham, shared how she used the oil to lock in moisture.

Oil Composition and Scent

The scent of the OSEA Undaria Body Oil is citrusy and fruity. Every time I slather some of the oil onto my body I feel like I’m vacationing on an island in the tropics. I get a beautiful, hydrated glow on my skin once applied.

Undaria Seaweed is the star ingredient of this greaseless oil. This brown kelp is grown in Pacific Ocean waters and is rich in antioxidants. The algae helps to soften and replenish the skin’s moisture barrier, detox pores, and protect against UV radiation. OSEA sustainably sources the seaweed from farms in the Southern Patagonia region, where once harvested, the algae soaks in large barrels of botanical oils for up to six months.

During this artisanal process, essential oils are added to the seaweed to help break down the kelp’s cell walls and allow the minerals to fuse with the oil.

The seaweed is then enriched with passion fruit, acai, babassu, and rice bran oils that give it that fruit-inspired aroma while providing nourishing moisture to the body. These plant-based oils work in combination to provide several key benefits to the skin. The passion fruit preserves collagen, promotes cell turnover, reduces redness, and is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores). The babassu oil is packed with good fatty acids that deeply moisturize the skin and give the OSEA oil this lightweight non-greasy consistency. The rice bran and acai are loaded with antioxidants that soothe inflammation and heal skin conditions like eczema.

Skin Types

The OSEA Undaria Body Oil is suited for all skin types and is a top choice if you deal with dry skin like mine. My body always drinks this up and I enjoy how quickly it’s absorbed. Plus, the formula is long-lasting and effective when it comes to boosting hydration. Clinically and dermatologist tested the National Eczema Association has given this delectable body oil its Seal of Acceptance™. So even sensitive skin types can indulge in using this golden elixir.

Application

Applying the Undaria Body oil is a simple and easy 3-step process. First, I turn the twist and lock cap and pump a few squirts of the tangy-scented oil into the palms of my hands. Second, I warm the oil up by rubbing my hands together a few times. Finally, I apply the oil along my arms and decollete and take in the decadent aroma of the mango and grapefruit. This is also amazing to layer with gourmand perfumes and is best to use right after a shower on damp skin.

The OSEA Undaria body oil comes in three different sizes a 1 oz, 5oz, and their jumbo 9.6 fl oz. The 1 oz travel size is best for weekend trips where you only need a carry-on. While the jumbo 9.6 oz is the best overall value-wise because you pay $8.75 per ounce versus the 5 oz you pay $10.40 per ounce. So you get a 16% savings or $15 off the jumbo-size. The 5 oz is the goldilocks of the two and is best if you want more than the travel but are not quite ready to commit to the jumbo.

With each bottle, there will be some color variance due to the raw, natural elements of the Undaria seaweed. Along with the color changes, naturally occurring sediment can sometimes be found at the bottom of the bottle which is ok and still maintains the integrity of the formula.

Packaging

The packaging OSEA uses for its products combines luxury with sustainability. This liquid gold body oil is encapsulated in a weighty frosted glass bottle with a white pump top. The twist-and-lock mechanism on the pump helps to prevent accidental dispensing and spills. The minimalistic design of the oil makes it feel like less is more. On the front of the bottle, you have the OSEA name etched in green font with the ounces at the bottom.

To achieve sustainability commitments, the Founder Jenefer Palmer, and CEO daughter Melissa Palmer, have worked to make the glass bottles fully recyclable and utilize pumps made with 50% post-consumer-recycled plastic.

The OSEA Undaria Body Oil ranges in price between $20-$84 for the different size options. This is a fair value considering how this oil will last you a while.
