Welcome to WrightFashions my name is Aleah Wright, I’m a Freelance Fashion & Beauty Writer, Blogger, and Creator.
Education & Early Career
A little bit about me! I attended “The Fashion School” at Kent State University, where I earned my B.S. in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Fashion Media. During my time in college, I participated in a study abroad program in Florence, Italy, and expanded my horizons fashion and culture-wise. Then went on to intern for Michael Kors in my senior year, applying all that I had learned over the last three years to my role and gaining real-world work experience at the same time.
After graduating in 2019, I started my blog and YouTube channel called WrightFashions. I was passionate about sharing my fashion hauls, giving industry advice, and providing tips to help people become more savvy shoppers. I began to grow my audience over the next two years, and then in 2021, I moved to New York City and worked as a Merchandising Intern for Prada. As an intern, I gained invaluable experience sitting in on buying sessions, creating daily business reports for all the departments, and collaborating with stores in Soho and on 5th Avenue to help introduce merchandise and put out new products.
Internships In New York City
I completed my Prada internship in 2022, and gifted myself my first-ever Prada bag to celebrate all the hard work I had done over the last half a year. Then, life taught me about pivoting, and it became a challenge to land another corporate fashion job, especially with the ever-shifting job climate. So I decided to do what was best and radically pour and invest in myself. In 2023, I began pitching beauty stories to editors for the first time and published a large volume of articles on my blog.
Editorial Writing & Beauty Line
I picked up my first commerce bylines with InStyle, writing about the Makeup By Mario foundation launch and the Tarte Contour Wands. I went from having 20 articles published to having almost 77 pieces currently. Over the next three years, I would expand my network and write for publications like Business Insider on traveling on the Amtrak, crafting beauty roundups for InStyle on celebrity hairstyles, black hairstyles like Bantu Knots, and natural hairstyles. Plus writing on the fashion side for ESSENCE, interviewing Oscar-winning costume designer, Paul Tazewell, for the Wicked movie, and Tony-winning costume designer, Dede Ayite, for the Broadway production of Othello. Plus, I’ve been graciously featured in other publications like NBCU Academy and Stylist.
In 2024, I took on my first business venture and started a beauty line called Wright Beauty, selling body butter and beauty oil for women of deeper tones who deal with dry skin. Since launching, I’ve been able to sell several units of my butter, making it a staple from my collection. Now, I’m taking on new opportunities writing more for my blog, landing more bylines for publications that I admire, and building a community with other fellow fashion and beauty lovers.
